How to avoid costly AdSense mistakes

AdSense publishers, sometimes knowingly or unknowingly, commit some common mistakes that could result in the ban of their AdSense accounts. Google AdSense program has well defined terms of service, policies and guidelines that are to be strictly complied with when participating in AdSense program.

Here a few helpful Google AdSense guidelines, probably many of you already know them, and those who do not know surely will gain by knowing them.

Though you may use headings such as “sponsored links” or “advertisements” to describe Google ads, other misleading labels like ‘favorite links’, ‘recommended sites’ or similar descriptions that may work as an inducement to click on ads are not allowed. It is better not to give any headings or label because in all AdWords ads, Google indicate ‘Ads by Google’.

Never edit or change the AdSense code by yourself. You can make the changes and customize ads while creating your ads, like changing the color of text, URLs, background and border to suit your pages. So change whatever you want and copy the code and place them on your pages. If you change the codes after copying, either the ads or search box may not appear, or you may experience other troubles.

Do not place more than 3 ad units and 3 link units and 2 AdSense search boxes on any web page or blog page. Anyway, ads will not appear in those units even if you place more ads than the limit Google has set.

Do not disclose confidential information about your account, like the CTR, CPM and income derived, or any other confidential information Google may reveal to you regarding your account. Never allow others know your Google password. Use a strong password.

One AdSense account is enough for all your websites/ blogs. You do not need to create different accounts for different websites. If one account is closed by Google for violation of terms, they will close all other accounts. Moreover, Google discourages more than one account for the same person, because, as and when you try to open other accounts for you, a dialog box will tell you to use your original account. You can keep track of clicks received by various sites or pages by creating channels for each site or page.

Do not your use Google ads in email campaigns. HTML formatted email pages look good and ads can be included in them, though not a good idea and not allowed.

Do not create pages only for displaying various ads, affiliate links, etc. Google ads are content-based and use them in pages having valuable content, by avoiding excessive advertising and keyword stuffing. Google AdSense ads placed on webpages with good content and traffic will get you much more income than other programs. So you can do away with most other competing ads/ URLs.
